The memorial, designed by architect Henry Bacon, was completed in 1922. It features a Doric-columned structure, within which there’s a seated statue of Abraham Lincoln. Each of the 36 columns of the structure represents the then-states of the U.S., that is, during the time of Lincoln’s death. 

The memorial is open to visitors 24 hours a day.

Visit the Washington Monument

The Washington Monument is an iconic obelisk that’s a 555-foot marble structure. When it was designed by architect Robert Mills and completed in 1884, it was the then-tallest manmade structure in the world. 

The tower has a dedicated observation deck that offers panoramic views of Washington DC. Given the multiple restorations since 2011’s earthquake, the tower stands strong.
